Technical Deep-Dive

Vue.js frontend over a structured recipe schema (ingredients, steps, metadata), enabling ingredient-based search, fast catalog views, and an add-recipe editor that validates common mistakes before publish.

Engineering Architecture: A Community Recipe Platform

Recipes is a community-driven cooking platform: members share recipes, tweak each other's versions, search by ingredient or cuisine, and follow the people whose cooking they trust.

1. The Core Loop

The product is built around a simple content loop that keeps it self-sustaining:

• Publish: members write recipes with structured fields — ingredients, steps, prep time, servings, photos.
• Discover: search, category browsing, and "more like this" surfaces surface the right recipe for the evening's ingredients.
• Engage: comments and shares keep the loop alive and give search engines genuinely useful, incrementally unique pages.

2. Architecture

A Vue.js frontend drives a structured content model. Recipes are typed data, not free-form blog posts, which is what allows them to be searched, filtered, and rendered consistently:

• Structured recipe schema: ingredients and steps are stored as ordered lists with structured metadata, enabling ingredient search ("recipes with chickpeas") that free text can't reliably deliver.
• Fast list views: catalog pages (by cuisine, by ingredient, latest) are server-rendered-friendly snapshots of the data model, keeping first paint fast on low-end devices.
• Editor UX: an add-recipe flow validates common mistakes (missing quantities, empty steps) before publish, keeping the catalog quality high without heavy moderation.

3. Design Decisions

• Search by ingredient, not title: because contents are structured, the search index covers what's in recipes — the query most home cooks actually make.
• Photo-forward cards: visually distinct dish images drive the feed, with consistent card layout so the catalog scans quickly.
• Ownership incentives: every contributor gets credit on their profile, which gives the community a reason to keep publishing.

4. Outcome

The platform proved the community-content playbook: structured authoring in, discoverability out. Good data modeling turned a recipe-sharing hobby site into a searchable, growing library.
